Many people fall into the trap of thinking that there’s not much they can do when it comes to designing a bedroom.  After moving the bed and the other bits of usual furniture, what is there you can really do?If you follow the following helpful tips then you will have a good idea of how to plan your bedroom.

The best way to get started is by evaluating the space that you have in terms of the size and shape of the actual room.  The best way to do this is to empty the room of all furniture and belongings completely.By emptying the room of all contents this will make it easier for you to evaluate the condition of all the walls, floor, windows, doors and trim.

Whether you are giving the bedroom a complete makeover or you're just applying a fresh coat of paint and some new curtains, it is obvious that your job will be made much easier when there isn't lots of furniture to work around.

The next logical step is to draw a plan of your bedroom.  You don't need to make a millimetre accurate diagram at this stage - a simple sketch will help you put ideas for arrangements down on paper so that you can see what works and what doesn't.

As it is the largest piece of furniture to go into your room, you should place the bed first and then plan around it.From there you will be much easier to see what space is available for what furniture is left.  A very useful and accurate way of planning and designing your bedroom is by using one of the many CAD design packages that are on the market.  They provide a very effective means of visualising your ideas before you have to go moving heavy furniture about.  They are also often used for kitchen design and bathroom design so if you are planning on making significant improvements to your home, it is a cheap investment that is definitely worth your consideration.

Basics Ways To Use Paint Color In Your Interior Design Scheme

If what you want is a great and simple way to change your interior design, you should consider paint. You can change a room in this way without paying very much. However, knowing how to pick the right paint color is essential.

First, think about the room you want to paint and its purpose. Certain colors only match certain rooms, although there are no hard and fast rules. Although you may not find very many living rooms painted pink, you would likely find that same color in the bathroom. Additionally the main living spaces in homes tend to be neutral colors. When picking out the best color for you, remember that the closest things to rules in interior design, are guidelines. You should decide what color you want based on your personal needs and style.

Next, consider the way the rooms in your house are designed. Usually in Victorian style households, casual pastels, social, or polished colors tend to be not only suitable but pretty common. In more modern households you may want to choose a neutral or simple primary color for your rooms.

Think of how you want people to feel as they walk into your room? If you want colors that seem to give more energy to the house, you should consider looking for a blue or red shade that works best for you (remember when using red it may be best done in moderation). If you’re really lost in this decision making process specialists such as those at interior design central london can help you flesh out your needs.

Finally, if you still need ideas or guidance look in magazines or catalogs. In those magazines, which rooms did you like, which made you feel more relaxed, or influenced you? Note the color of the furniture and mainly walls. Perhaps you have always had the same neutral colors in your house but find that you are more partial to the red hues and designs you found in the catalog. Maybe that means you need to add more color to your walls.

If you use your imagination and your own sense of what just “feels right” in your rooms, you will be able to choose the perfect paint color for your walls, giving your interior a whole new feel.

If You Want To decorate a room having never attempted anything this big before. Here are some useful tips first. I’m sure you know many people who will offer suggestions along the way.

Lighter colour schemes will enhance the space in smaller rooms. More intense colours can be used in larger rooms without feeling smaller. Likewise, if the room does not get too much light, then, lighter colours in an eggshell paint will help to reflect light and brighten the place. Try not to use white, though, it tend to look cold and clinical - and it looks grubby very quickly. Another reason to use eggshell paint is that it does accept the occasional wipe down. an important consideration when you have youn children.

Having chosen the colours you are going to use (No mean feat with all those colour paint charts to choose from), now you must decide whether to employ a contractor to do the work or do it yourself. Painting the walls is an easier route if you are doing it yourself. It is also a lot less expensive than wallpaper so if you find you hate the finished product it is less of a disaster.

The key to a good finish is preparation-preparation-preparation. Clear the space of as much furnisher as possible before you start. Cover the rest with at least two layers of cloth. Make sure you adequately protect any floors and carpets. All surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned in order to get rid of any grease that has accumulated over the years. Next fill any small holes or cracks in wall with filler, several layers may be required for larger holes. The filler will usually shrink as it dries. When the plaster is thoroughly dry (at least 24 hours,) rub it down thoroughly with sandpaper  so it is very smooth. Next, use sandpaper rub down all the woodwork. Getting down to the bare wood is the best option, but this is not always possible so make sure your woodwork is smooth.

Now start at the top and work downwards. Start with the ceiling, and make sure it is fully dry before moving on. Next place masking tape at the very edge of the ceiling so that you get a very straight line when you paint the walls. Do not leave the masking tape on for to long, it will be difficult to get off without damaging your newly painted ceiling.

Using rollers rather than brushes for the large areas will usually give a more uniform finish. To get good coverage and depth in the finish, you may need to use several coats when using a roller, even so you will still use less paint than if you use a paintbrush, it will dry faster, go on much faster and therefore, even though you are applying more than one coat it will still be faster.

Now for the woodwork. Again, the walls should be masked where they meet the woodwork. Then using a small paintbrush give the woodwork an undercoat. The undercoat will help the top coat to adhere better and will therefore last longer. It also gives a much smoother final finish if the undercoat is lightly sanded. Woodwork is usually painted with gloss paint. This washes easier and takes the considerable amount of touching that woodwork gets. Do not try to put too thick a layer on at one time. It will run, and look horrible. Multiple thinner coats are always better. Always make sure that the paint is dry before applying the next coat

To save you having to repeatedly wash your brushes every time you stop painting, you can wrap your brushes tightly in clingfilm. It prevents air getting to them and will stop them drying out. Even after you have thoroughly cleaned your brushes, it is still useful to wrap your brushes. There are always occasions when you need to make good you decorations after disasters, so always keep any left over paint

Always paint window frames when the windows are slightly open. Paint will securely glue the windows permanently shut!  The same applies to doors. When painting doors, the rule is that you paint those parts of the frame that can be seen when it is open. Or in the case of an inward opening door, when it is closed.

One last thing. Take your time. Enjoy watching your room turn into the space which you have always wanted. Home improvement should be enjoyable. If you find you have hated every minute of it, then next time you want a rooom painted, save up to pay somebody else to do it for you. If you don’t enjoy the process, then you will tend to rush and skimp the work and the end result will not be so good.
